Helping women and young people feel more comfortable in their own skin, one workshop at a time.
What if we stopped looking at our skin as something that needs fixing and started seeing it as something worth understanding and looking after?
We live in a world where women are constantly being told that their skin isn't good enough. From anti-ageing creams and expensive treatments to supplements, facial gadgets and the latest skincare trends, there is no shortage of products promising to make us look younger, better or somehow more acceptable.
Social media has amplified this message, creating an environment where normal skin changes are increasingly presented as problems. Fine lines, pigmentation, hormonal breakouts, dryness and changes in skin texture are all part of having skin, yet we are often encouraged to see them as flaws that need correcting.
At Ermana, I believe there is a better conversation to be had.
Through Skin & Within workshops, I want to help women and young people reconnect with their skin, understand what it needs and discover how everyday lifestyle choices can support their health and wellbeing.
Because healthy skin isn't about looking younger. It's about feeling comfortable in the skin you're in.
A different approach to skin health
Ermana was founded on the belief that skincare should be simple, nourishing and uncomplicated.
Having experienced sensitive and reactive skin myself, I understand how frustrating it can be to feel that your skin is constantly working against you. Like many women, I spent time trying different products, looking for solutions and believing that I needed to do more.
Eventually, I realised that using more products wasn't necessarily helping. I began learning about ingredients, plant oils and the relationship between our skin and overall health.
That experience shaped the ethos behind Ermana: less is more, healthy skin over anti-ageing and understanding your skin rather than fighting against it.
I want women to feel confident and comfortable in their own skin, whatever their age or skin type. I don't believe normal skin changes should be turned into insecurities or that women should feel they need to spend money constantly correcting themselves.
Our skin is a living, functioning organ. It responds to our environment, hormones, stress, sleep, nutrition and lifestyle. Looking after it involves much more than applying another product.
And that's where Skin & Within comes in.
Relax & Glow: Reconnecting women with their skin
One of the ways I'm bringing this philosophy to life is through our Relax & Glow workshops.
These experiences combine practical skincare education with relaxation and simple self-care techniques, creating an opportunity for women to step away from their busy lives and spend some time looking after themselves.
Rather than focusing on the latest beauty trends or complicated skincare routines, we explore:
- Understanding your skin: Learning about skin health, how our skin changes throughout life and what it actually needs.
- Natural skincare: Understanding plant-based ingredients, facial oils and how to build a simple, effective skincare routine.
- Lifestyle and skin health: Exploring the connection between nutrition, hydration, sleep, stress and the health of our skin.
- Facial self-care: Learning simple facial massage, acupressure and relaxation techniques that can be incorporated into everyday routines.
- Confidence and self-acceptance: Moving away from anti-ageing messaging and towards appreciating and caring for the skin we have.
The aim is for women to leave with more than a little glow. I want them to leave feeling informed, relaxed and empowered to make choices that support their own health and wellbeing.
There is also something valuable about experiencing these workshops together. When women come into a room, share experiences and realise that many of the things they worry about are completely normal, it can help build confidence and create meaningful connections.
Self-care doesn't have to be expensive, complicated or another thing on an already overwhelming to-do list. Sometimes it simply starts with giving yourself permission to slow down.
Taking wellbeing into our communities
Over the years, I've been fortunate to work with a range of community groups, organisations and wellbeing initiatives, delivering workshops that bring people together through food, skincare, nutrition and self-care.
From kombucha and gut health sessions to nourishing food workshops, botanical skincare experiences and wellbeing events, I've seen how accessible, practical activities can encourage people to engage with their health in a relaxed and supportive environment.
Working with organisations including community groups, housing associations and wellbeing initiatives has reinforced something I feel strongly about: these experiences shouldn't be reserved for people who can afford expensive retreats, spa days or specialist wellness programmes.
Everyone deserves access to information, practical skills and opportunities to prioritise their wellbeing.
That's why I want to develop the community side of Ermana further, taking Skin & Within workshops into more local communities and working with organisations that share a commitment to improving health, confidence and wellbeing.
Whether that's a women's group, community centre, workplace, charity or local organisation, the workshops can be adapted to suit different audiences and budgets.
Helping the next generation feel comfortable in their skin
One area I'm particularly passionate about is working with girls and young women in schools and educational settings.
Young people are growing up in an online environment where beauty standards, skincare routines and product recommendations are constantly being pushed at them.
Influencers often present carefully curated versions of themselves while promoting products, supplements and treatments that promise to solve problems young people may never have thought they had.
It is important that girls learn to question what they see online and understand that not everything being sold to them is necessary, appropriate or backed by good evidence.
I would love to take Skin & Within workshops into schools and youth settings to help girls develop a healthier relationship with their skin and their bodies.
These sessions could explore:
- Understanding what skin does and why looking after it matters.
- The importance of a simple skincare routine and good skin hygiene.
- How puberty, hormones and changing bodies can affect the skin.
- The role of sleep, nutrition, hydration, movement and stress in overall health.
- Understanding skincare ingredients and making informed choices.
- Building confidence and recognising the difference between genuine health advice and marketing designed to sell products.
- Developing positive self-care habits without feeling pressured to look a certain way.
I want girls to understand that they don't need a ten-step skincare routine, expensive products or the latest viral gadget to have healthy skin.
They need good information, healthy habits and the confidence to trust themselves rather than constantly comparing themselves to people on a screen.
Most importantly, I want them to understand that their bodies aren't problems to be fixed.
Self-care is about confidence, not perfection
We often talk about self-care as something indulgent: a facial, a massage, a spa day or a treat at the end of a busy week.
But self-care is much more fundamental than that.
It's understanding when we need rest, nourishing our bodies, setting boundaries, moving in ways that make us feel good and taking time to reconnect with ourselves.
Learning how to look after our skin can be a simple starting point for those conversations.
Taking five minutes to massage your face, understanding the ingredients in your skincare or developing a routine that feels good can become a small but meaningful daily ritual.
These moments can help us slow down, become more aware of our bodies and make choices that support how we feel, rather than how we think we should look.
And when we begin to prioritise our own wellbeing, rather than constantly chasing external expectations, confidence can grow.
I believe this is particularly important for women navigating midlife, when hormonal changes, ageing and shifting life circumstances can sometimes leave us feeling disconnected from ourselves.
We deserve better than being told that every change needs another product, treatment or supplement.
We deserve knowledge, support and the freedom to feel good about ourselves at every stage of life.
Bringing Skin & Within to your community
My vision is to make Skin & Within an accessible part of Ermana's community work, bringing together natural skincare, skin health education and practical wellbeing experiences.
I want to work with schools, community organisations, charities, women's networks, local authorities, housing associations and other groups who are looking for engaging, inclusive and educational wellbeing workshops.
Sessions can be tailored to different ages, needs and settings, with a focus on practical learning, participation and giving people simple tools they can take away and use in everyday life.
From Relax & Glow facial self-care workshops to skin health education for young people and wider lifestyle and wellbeing sessions, the aim is always the same:
To help people feel more informed, more connected to themselves and more confident in the choices they make.
Because at Ermana, we don't believe you need fixing.
We believe you deserve to feel comfortable in your own skin.
Healthy skin. Healthy habits. A healthier relationship with ourselves.
That's what Skin & Within is all about.
